What is zis 30?

ZiS-30 is a Soviet light self-propelled anti-aircraft gun of World War II. The acronym "ZiS" stands for "Zavod imeni Stalina" (Factory named after Stalin). It was based on a modified chassis of the T-60 tank and armed with a 37 mm anti-aircraft gun.

It was designed as a cheap and simple alternative to the more complex and expensive anti-aircraft guns and tanks, in order to provide more anti-aircraft firepower to the Soviet army. It entered service in 1941 and was used extensively during the war, primarily for air defense of ground forces and installations.

The ZiS-30 had a crew of four and was equipped with two machine guns for ground targets. The vehicle was lightly armored and could reach a top speed of 45 km/h. Its primary armament was a 37 mm anti-aircraft gun that had a maximum elevation of 90 degrees and a maximum range of 8 kilometers.

Despite its simplicity, the ZiS-30 proved to be effective against low-flying aircraft and was widely used by the Soviet army throughout the war. Approximately 600 units were produced.
